PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective material for protecting plants such as turf suitable for a large-sized parking zone in a riverbed, an automotive campsite, etc., or an emergency vehicular introduction road, a multipurpose open space, etc., from a treading pressure by large-sized vehicles, etc., and a structure for laying the protective material for the plants. SOLUTION: This protective material for plants is composed of each hollow cylindrical basal part 2 and a protective wall 4 installed upwardly and extendedly from the basal part 2 and further unevennesses formed on the whole periphery of the outer wall of the basal part 2 and providing each engaging part 3. Since a part of the protective wall 4 is missing and formed into each notched part and the basal part 2 is formed into a cylindrical shape, the protective material can easily be laid according to the shape of boundary parts even if the shape of the boundary parts of the laid part is not linear when arranged on the ground surface. Since the notched part is provided in the protective wall 4, subterranean stems or roots of plants such as turf can readily be grown.
