An irradiation apparatus tor depositing a dose distribution ina target volume to be irradiated may include: an acceleratordevice for supplying a particle beam in order to irradiate thetarget volume； and a scanning device for modifying a propertyof the particle beam such that the particle beam issuccessively directed to different locations in a presetscanning volume and is thus scanned over the scanning volumeduring operation of the irradiation apparatus. The scanningdevice may be configured to: scan the scanning volume along adefined scanning oath set independently of the target volume；and adjust the dose distribution to be deposited in the targetvolume by modulating an intensity of the particle beam when theparticle beam is scanned along the scanning path.
