A control method of the optical tomographic image photographing apparatus includes the steps of: calculating coordinate values matching a plurality of previously-acquired characteristic areas in the fundus image calculating a spatial variation between the plurality of coordinate values and controlling the scan of a measuring light by the tomographic image photographing section for acquiring the tomographic images on the basis of a result of the calculation.
