An α7β1 integrin modulating agent for use in the treatment of muscular dystrophy in a subject or for use in the improvement of muscle regeneration, repair or maintenance in a subject or for use in the prospective prevention or reduction of injury or muscle damage in a subject: wherein said α7β1 integrin modulating agent has a formula selected from ** Formula ** in which Y1 and Y2 are independently selected from oxygen, sulfur or NRb, wherein Rb is selected from hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, cycloalkyl, substituted cycloalkyl, heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryl, heterocyclyl or substituted heterocyclyl; wherein R1 is selected from C1-10 alkyl, substituted C1-10 alkyl, C1-10 alkoxy, substituted C1-10 alkoxy, acyl, acylamino, acyloxy, C1-10 acylakyloxy, amino, substituted amino, aminoacyl, aminocarbonylalkyl- 10, aminocarbonylamino, aminodicarbonylamino, aminocarbonyloxy, aminosulfonyl, C6-15 aryl, substituted C6-15 aryl, C6-15 aryloxy, substituted C6-15 aryloxy, C6-15 arylthio, substituted C6-15 arylthio, carboxy, carboxyter, (carboxyter) amino, (carboxy ester) oxy, cyano, C3-8 cycloalkyl, substituted C3-8 cycloalkyl, (C3-8 cycloalkyl) oxy, (C3-8 cycloalkyl) substituted oxy, (C3-8 cycloalkyl) thio, (C3-8 cycloalkyl) ) substituted thio, halo, hydroxy, C1-10 heteroaryl, substituted C1-10 heteroaryl, C1-10 heteroaryloxy, substituted C1-10 heteroaryloxy, C1-10 heteroaryl, substituted C1-10 heteroarylthio, C2-10 heterocyclyl, C2-10 heterocyclyl substituted, C2-10 heterocyclyloxy, C2-10 heterocyclyloxy substituted, C2-10 heterocyclylthio, substituted C2-10 heterocyclylthio, im ino, oxo, sulfonyl, sulfonylamino, thiol, C1-10 alkylthio, substituted C1-10 alkylthio or thiocarbonyl; or two R1 substituents, together with the atom to which each is linked, can form a ring selected from a C6-15 aryl, substituted C6-15 aryl, C3-8 cycloalkyl, substituted C3-8 cycloalkyl, C1-10 heteroaryl, substituted C1-10 heteroaryl, substituted C2-10 heterocyclyl or C2
