A row unit (22) for a header of an agricultural harvester is provided that includes a frame (26) and two spaced apart stripping plates (36a,36b). The row unit (22) further includes a first stalk roll (38a) mounted to the frame (26) adjacent the first stripping plate (36a) and a second stalk roll (38b) mounted to the frame (26) adjacent the second stripping plate (36b). The first stalk roll (38a) includes a primary helical flight (46a) having a front end that starts at a front edge (50a) of the first stalk roll (38a) and the second stalk roll (38b) includes a secondary helical flight (46b) having a front end that starts at a position axially spaced from a front edge (50b) of the second stalk roll (38b).
