PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for an automobile equipped with a sterilization mechanism capable of sterilizing the surface of an evaporator continuously for a long period of time by irradiating an ultraviolet light effective for sterilization over the whole range of the upstream surface and/or downstream surface of the evaporator irrespective of the shape or antibacterial properties of the surface of the evaporator.SOLUTION: In an air conditioner for an automobile equipped with a sterilization mechanism for an evaporator, the sterilization mechanism has an ultraviolet light source using one or more ultraviolet light emitting diodes for emitting an ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 300 nm or less.
