The present invention relates to an egg containing ergothioneine, feed for chickens for egg taking which enables the chickens to produce the same, and a method for feeding and breeding chickens for egg taking. The edible egg with antioxidant properties, in which ergothioneine is sufficiently contained by using biological concentration, can be obtained by the following steps: preparing an extract containing ergothioneine from a waste culture medium used for producing edible mushrooms mixing the predetermined amount of the extract with generally used feed for chickens and feeding chickens for egg taking on the prepared feed for a predetermined period and obtaining the edible egg from the bred chickens.
