A surgical sheath for use in endoscopic trans-nasal or intra-ocular surgery is made of a braid material. The sheath may be manufactured by placing a length of braided tube material over a mandrel. The braid material is conformed to the shape of the mandrel and is then heat set. An atraumatic end may be made by folding or rolling one or both ends of the sheath. A coating may also optionally be applied to the braid material. The sheath reduces collateral trauma to the tissues in the surgical pathway.Une gaine chirurgicale destinée à être utilisée dans une chirurgie endoscopique transnasale ou intra-oculaire est constituée d'un matériau tressé. La gaine peut être fabriquée en plaçant une longueur de matériau de tube tressé sur un mandrin. Le matériau tressé se conforme à la forme du mandrin et est ensuite thermodurci. Une extrémité atraumatique peut être obtenue par pliage ou enroulement d'une ou des deux extrémités de la gaine. Un revêtement peut également être éventuellement appliqué sur le matériau tressé.
