The device comprises a cleaning surface that is not re-used but is renewed after each use and that delivers both chemical and mechanical cleaning. Cleaning disc 7 may be rotated by movement of contact plate 1 with gearing amplifying the rotation. The device requires no electrical power but alternatively may be powered by an electric motor. In use a cleaning ribbon (13, fig 2) passes in front of and engages the cleaning disc. The ribbon may contain alcohol gel in a reservoir (17, fig 3) and may be moved by gearing linked to movement of the contact plate.
