During continuous casting, the pressure in the first zone adjacent to the melting chamber can be adjusted to a pressure that is greater than the melting pressure. The pressure in the subsequent zones can be progressively reduced and subsequently increased. The pressure in the end zone may be greater than atmospheric pressure.
