PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose a level wind mechanism that eliminates the need for a large scale disassembly work about a reel body, and enables even a general consumer to replace a traverse cam shaft to a new article.SOLUTION: A level wind mechanism includes a traverse cam shaft mounted in parallel with a spool shaft between both sides of a reel body, and a connecting gear provided on one hand shaft-end of the traverse cam shaft and transmitting the rotation in the winding direction of the spool shaft to the traverse cam shaft. The traverse cam shaft is detachably connected with the connecting gear by the key connection between a key for connecting the one hand shaft-end of the traverse cam shaft with the center of the connecting gear along an axial direction and a key groove. Also, the mounting holes where the traverse cam shaft can freely be inserted are provided on the side part of the other shaft-end side of the traverse cam shaft among both sides of the reel body.
