PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing system and a processing method for effectively utilizing biomass resources by which heat energy required for production and recovery of gaseous hydrogen by pyrolysis of gaseous methane produced from biomass resources can be obtained without depending on external fuel or external energy. SOLUTION: The processing system 1 is provided with a methane fermentation apparatus 2 which produces digestion liquid and gaseous methane by heating the biomass resources including plants, livestock products, fishery products or their waste or garbage and livestock waste such as excreta at 35 to 60°C, a combustion apparatus 3 which burns a part of the gaseous methane produced in the methane fermentation apparatus 2 together with an oxygen-containing gas to generate heat energy and a gas reformer 4 which carries out pyrolysis of remainder of the gaseous methane produced in the methane fermentation apparatus 2 by utilizing heat energy generated in the combustion apparatus 3 to produce and recover the gaseous hydrogen.
