A method for preparing nanoscale hydroxyapatite particles by combining an amountof a calcium ion source, which includes calcium acetate, and an amount of a phosphateion source, wherein the amounts are sufficient to produce nanoscale hydroxyapatiteparticles and the amounts are combined under ambient conditions to produce thehydroxyapatite particles. Nanoscale hydroxyapatite particles are also presented.
