PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both a choline monooxygenase of a plant associated with the occurrence of injury to the plant caused by dry soil or basic soil, considered to contribute to an improvement in resistance of the plant to the dry soil or basic soil and induced with the dry soil or basic soil and its gene. SOLUTION: This recombinant protein is the following (a) or (b). (a) a protein comprising any amino acid sequence of specific three kinds or (b) a protein comprising an amino acid sequence in which one or plural amino acids are deleted, substituted or added in the above amino acid sequence and having the choline monooxygenase activity. Furthermore, a gene encoding the protein is obtained.
