PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acidic hair dye composition capable of obtaining a high hair-dyeing effect while suppressing background soiling.SOLUTION: An acidic hair dye composition of the present invention comprises: (A) 1,2-alkanediol (B) at least one organic solvent selected from aromatic alcohols and carbonate esters and (C) an acid dye, the composition having a pH of 2-5. The carbon number of the component (A) may be in the range of 4-10. The content of the component (A) in the acidic hair dye composition may be 0.05-30% by mass.
