PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stress evaluation device and a stress evaluation method capable of reducing the burden on a subject during the measurement of a pulse wave and accurately performing stress diagnosis even in the case of measurement performed in a short period of time.SOLUTION: The stress evaluation device includes a pulse wave measuring unit 3 for measuring the subjects pulse wave from light transmitted through or reflected by a finger touching it, and a stress evaluation diagnosis unit 7 for diagnosing the subjects stress based on the pulse wave data obtained. The pulse wave measuring unit 3 includes a pressure detection unit 22 for detecting whether or not there is contact with the finger, and an acceleration measuring unit 23 for measuring the acceleration of the finger during contact.
