The present invention relates to a shaft assembly for a surgical instrument including a movable drive member. In at least one form, the surgical instrument includes a back assembly that is coupled to the surgical instrument and has a surgical end actuator coupled thereto by means of a hinged joint. The shaft assembly, in one form, includes a proximal trigger member and an intermediate trigger member that is coupled to a distal trigger member. The distal firing member is configured for selective travel through the surgical end actuator. At least one pivot actuator is coupled to the surgical end actuator to apply pivot movements to it. a clutch assembly interfaces with the primary and intermediate firing members and the pivot drive, so that when in a pivot orientation, movement of the drive member results in movement of the pivot actuator, and when in a pivot orientation. triggering, movement of the drive member results in movement of the intermediate and distal trigger members.
