This endoscope includes: a bending portion which is provided on a tip of an insertion portion to be inserted into a subject, has a plurality of bending pieces disposed consecutively, and is bendable in at least one direction； a flexible tube portion which has flexibility and is provided toward a base end of the bending portion； a manipulable portion which is provided toward a base end of the flexible tube portion and receives manipulation to bend the bending portion； a wire which is inserted through the bending portion and the flexible tube portion, and transmits the manipulation received at the manipulable portion to the tip of the insertion portion； a projection portion which projects in directions that move away from a straight line that connects the center of the bending piece and the wire in at least a portion of the surface that is orthogonal to the direction in which the insertion portion extends； and a holding portion which is provided on an inner circumferential surface of the bending piece and movably holds the projection portion along the direction in which the insertion portion extends.
