A vaccine composition is provided for the prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatment of fish for infection by bacteria, particularly by the organism Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida. The composition comprises components produced by a culture of the organism. The culture is treated to kill the organism prior to use, preferably by treatment with formalin after components have been produced. Two of the components, involved in invasion of host cells and produced in high quantities when the culture is grown in medium containing excess iron, induce production of antibodies on injection into fish which prevent the entry of the organism into fish cells. These antibodies protect the fish from infection by the organism.Linvention concerne une composition de vaccin destinée au traitement prophylactique et/ou thérapeutique de poissons contre des infections par bactéries, en particulier par lorganisme Photobacterium damselae sous espèce piscicida. La composition contient des constituants produits par une culture de lorganisme. La culture est traitée pour tuer lorganisme avant utilisation, de préférence par un traitement au formol après production des constituants. Deux des constituants, impliqués dans linvasion de cellules hôtes sont produits en grandes quantités lorsque la culture est développée dans un milieu contenant un excédant de fer, induisent la production danticorps lors de linjection dans les poissons lesquels préviennent lentrée de lorganisme dans les cellules des poissons. Ces anticorps protègent les poissons contre les infections par lorganisme.
