The invention relates to a method for watering plants (9) planted in fertile soil (7), at least the fertile soil (7) being arranged in a planting chamber (1). The method has the following steps: a) generating a first atmosphere with a first relative humidity (R1) in the planting chamber (1) and maintaining the first atmosphere for a period of time (T1), b) reducing the relative humidity to a second atmosphere with a second relative humidity (R2) in the planting chamber (1) and maintaining the second atmosphere for a period of time (T2), c) repeating steps a) and b), and d) regenerating the first atmosphere in the planting chamber (1) and maintaining the first atmosphere for a period of time (T3) in order to wet the fertile soil (7) over a large area, said first relative humidity (R1) producing a first atmosphere which is saturated or virtually saturated with water.
