PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable engine work machine capable of improving operability in adjusting a tensile amount of a throttle cable regardless of an operating position of an adjustment operation portion.SOLUTION: A valve opening adjustment mechanism 130 has an operating member 133 rotatably disposed near a grip 7 for adjusting a tensile amount of a throttle cable 110, and a plurality of engagement portions 133a engaged with users hand fingers, are disposed in the circumferential direction on an outer peripheral portion of the operating member 133.
