PURPOSE: Operating controlling apparatus and method for a kimchi refrigerator are provided to reduce the unnecessary power consumption, and to improve the power consumption efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An operating controlling apparatus comprises the following: a sensor(10) installed on each storage chamber for detecting contents； a load driving unit(30) separately controlling each storage chamber； a controller(20) selectively controlling the operation of the storage chambers by the detection result of the sensor； a light emitting unit installed on one side of the storage chambers； a light receiving unit installed on the other side of the storage chambers for receiving the light from the light emitting unit； and a display unit displaying the operation of the storage chambers by control signals from the controller.본 발명은 각 저장실에 설치되어 저장실 각각의 내용물을 감지하는 감지부, 저장실 별로 동작을 개별적으로 제어하는 부하 구동부 및 감지부에 의한 감지 여부에 따라 각 저장실 별로 내용물이 저장되어 있는지를 판별하여 판별 결과에 따라 부하 구동부를 통해 저장실의 동작을 선택적으로 차단하는 제어부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
