The invention relates to a method for monitoring the function of a pasteurization installation, and to a pasteurization installation having a device for monitoring the function, providing a quick and simple way of detecting malfunctions. For this purpose, a theoretical expected value of the resource consumption, in particular of the energy and/or water consumption, is calculated, the actual value is determined and from a deviation between the expected value and the actual value a malfunction of the pasteurization installation is concluded.
