An ultrasound imaging system scans the body volume region. The clinician defines a three-dimensional region of interest within the volume region. The three-dimensional region of interest is viewed from two different view directions, giving the clinician a sense of the structure, configuration and orientation of the region of interest. The three-dimensional regions of interest are viewed from 180.degree. Opposite, orthogonal, or intermediate viewing directions.
