The composition comprises a pharmaceutical dosage form, which is configured to disintegrate in saliva and maintain a pH of 4 or less in saliva while the dosage form dissolves in saliva. The dosage form comprises a therapeutically effective amount of melatonin in a carrier matrix, a disintegrant, and an amount of acid sufficient to provide saliva with the above pH.
