PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underpants type absorbent article which is excellent in fittability to the skin of a wearer, has an outer surface with flexibility and smooth texture, and gives a soft impression of the appearance.SOLUTION: This underpants type absorbent article 1 includes an exterior 11 and an absorbent body 10 fixed on the inner surface of the exterior. The exterior 11 has an outer layer sheet 12 forming the outer surface, and an inside sheet 13. An abdomen side portion A has a waist region A1, an upper abdomen region A2 and a lower abdomen region A3. Elastic members 51, 91 for forming a gather are fixed, extending in a width direction X, to the outer layer sheet 12 in the waist region A1 and the lower abdomen region A3, respectively. The outer layer sheet 12 and the inside sheet 13 are in a non-bonding state in the upper abdomen region A2, and an elastic member 71 for forming a gather is fixed, extending in the width direction, to the inside sheet 13.
