The present invention relates to a drug release formulation, in particular a sustained release formulation for ophthalmic applications and a method of preparing same. The method is based on the hydration of a given solid polymeric matrix material under mild conditions, allowing versatility with respect to the drug to be formulated. Both said solid polymeric matrix material as well the API hydrated formulation is an object of the present invention. The thus obtained material is particularly suitable for prolonged and sustained delivery of medication to the eye. Thus in a further aspect, the present invention provides the use of said solid polymeric matrix material as well the API hydrated formulation, in ophthalmic applications.La présente invention concerne une formulation de libération de médicament, en particulier une formulation à libération prolongée pour des applications ophtalmiques et un procédé de préparation de celle-ci. Le procédé est basé sur lhydratation dun matériau de matrice polymère solide donné dans des conditions douces, offrant une polyvalence en ce qui concerne le médicament à formuler. Ledit matériau de matrice polymère ainsi que la formulation hydratée API est un objet de la présente invention. Le matériau ainsi obtenu est particulièrement adapté pour ladministration prolongée et durable de médicament à lœil. Par conséquent, dans un autre aspect, la présente invention concerne lutilisation dudit matériau de matrice polymère solide ainsi que la formulation hydratée API, dans des applications ophtalmiques.
