An ultrasound observation apparatus 3 includes a B-mode image generation unit 351 for generating a B-mode image, a mode selection information input unit 381 into which mode selection information is input, a boundary image composition unit 361 for generating a boundary composite image obtained by processing an ultrasound image such that a plurality of divided regions divided by mesh-like boundaries is displayed on the ultrasound image, a region selection information input unit 382 into which region selection information selecting a desired region of the B-mode image is input, and a region-of-interest setting unit 334 for setting a region of interest by calculation using a region-of-interest setting method previously associated with an operation mode selected in the mode selection information, based on the desired region selected in the region selection information. Accordingly, an ultrasound observation apparatus that allows a region of interest suitable for each operation mode to be set with a simple operation is provided.
