PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that successfully forms an image of a deep part of a subject by increasing the average density of irradiation light, in photoacoustic measurement using holding plates and an acoustic contact improving member.SOLUTION: An acoustic wave acquiring apparatus includes: the holding plates for holding a subject via the acoustic contact reinforcement member an acoustic wave detector for receiving an acoustic wave generated from the subject irradiated with light from a light source and converting the acoustic wave into an electric signal and a processor for generating characteristic information of the inside of the subject by using the electric signal.
