A method and apparatus for destroying material at a tissue site has been described. A contact layer (110) may be selected for use at the tissue site and positioned adjacent to the tissue site. The contact layer can include a wall defining a plurality of through holes (140). A seal member may be positioned over the contact layer and sealed against tissue surrounding the tissue site to form a sealed space surrounding the contact layer. A negative pressure source (104) may be fluidly coupled to the enclosed space. The negative pressure source can supply negative pressure to the enclosed space and the contact layer to draw tissue into the through-hole and form a nodule. Negative pressure can be vented from the enclosed space to release the nodule.
