Chicory or the like is cultured on a movable mat (11) located in vessels (3) which have an intermediate wall (9, 10) on both sides and which forms a channel for feeding, or withdrawing, the water which preferably contains nutrients. The vessels are arranged on top of each other and are borne by a corrugated plate (4). They are made of plastic, and the connection between the channels and the middle part of the vessel by means of passages or flooding points is arranged at different levels for the two channels.
