A shell 314 supports the absorbent structure 321 at the vaginal region and has an adhesive 344 on its body-facing surface for adhering the shell 314 directly to the wearer's body. The body facing surface has a first region with a first adhesive formulation and a second region with a second, different adhesive formulation. Other disclosed absorbent articles comprise: a body facing surface comprising an adhesive with a pattern and a visual cue associated with the adhesive； a body facing adhesive with a non-uniform adhesive pattern； a body facing surface with at least a portion that is adhesive free； and a body facing surface where adhesive is applied to first and second areas of the body facing surface to provide first and second adhesive strengths
