PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide modified grains or a crushed product of modified grains imparted with water-repellent property, and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of modified grains or a crushed product of modified grains imparted with water-repellent property includes the steps of: contacting grains or a crushed product of grains for use as raw materials including at least one of grains themselves with husks removed, grains with at least a part of shells or embryo buds removed, with a solution or suspension mainly composed of calcium hydroxide and water; separating the raw materials from the solution or suspension after the contact treatment; drying the raw materials after the separation treatment; and crushing the modified grains or the crushed product of modified grains obtained in the drying step on an as needed basis.
