PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel capable of performing sure thumbing operation by quickly moving a fingertip of a hand from a switch operating piece to a flange of a spool.SOLUTION: The fishing reel is provided with a reel body 5 having a hand-placing upper face 6a, the spool 34 placed at a front part of the reel body 5 and winding a fishing line 35, a motor 44 to rotate the spool 34 in a winding direction of the fishing line 35, and the switch operating piece 63 placed on the upper face of the reel body 5 and controlling rotation of the spool 34 by manually operating with the fingertip of the hand. The spool 34 is placed at the front part of the reel body 5 in a manner that at least one flange 37b is exposed out of the reel body 5.
