A method is provided for the cultivation and/or production of green macroalgae, such as Ulva spp. The green macroalgae are exposed to a temperature shock, such as a cold shock or a heat shock to induce reproduction, then maintained under suitable conditions. The method may further comprise fragmenting the temperature shocked green macroalgae. Green macroalgae may be produced according to the invention, such as for the production of biomass, wastewater treatment, bioremediation, human consumption, animal feed, and/or feedstock for the supply of pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals and/or biofuels. Le procédé peut être mis en œuvre dans un environnement deau de mer ou saumâtre, tel quun parc daquaculture.
