PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair cosmetic that has a high degree of freedom in agent type selection, improves the tension and stiffness, setability, and collectability of hair, and adds smoothness and softness, and to provide a hair treating method where the hair is left without washing after the hair cosmetic is applied to the hair.SOLUTION: This hair cosmetic includes components (A) to (D), and has a pH of 3.0-5.5 at 25°C. (A) is diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl benzoic acid hexyl. (B) is organic acid selected from lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, malic acid, malonic acid, and succinic acid, or the salt of the organic acid. (C) is an organic solvent that has a ClogP of -2 to 3 and is selected from the group consisting of aromatic alcohol, N-alkyl pyrrolidone, alkylene carbonate, polypropylene glycol, lactone, and cyclic ketone.
