The invention provides a method for the topical non therapeutical cosmetic treatment of the scalp comprising applying to the scalp an effective amount of at least one alkyl-phthalide or a plant extract comprising mainly said alkyl-phthalide. In particular, the treatment is an anti-dandruff treatment.
