A tilt apparatus 1 for a bed, comprises a base 2 configured to rest securely on a surface: a support means 3 configured to at least partly locate under a section of a bed, at or towards one end of the bed, and; a raising means 4 located between the support means 3 and the base 2 and configured to raise and lower the support means 3 in relation to the base 2. In another embodiment a vertical apparatus with a horizontal support bracket 103 (Fig. 4) can be used to raise the bed, either with a threaded bar that raised or lowers the plate when rotated, or with a rack and pinion system 203 (Fig. 5). An advantage of the apparatus is that it can be used to raise normal beds to a slanted position for patients suffering conditions that give rise to the need to lie in a slanted position.
