A process for injecting a plurality of bird eggs comprises: a. orienting a plurality of poultry eggs in a predetermined position； B. form an opening in the shell of each egg； ç. extending an elongate release device through each of the openings and into the eggs, each release device comprising a detector and an injection needle, with the injection needle having a lumen formed therein； d. detecting with the detector information from within each of the plurality of eggs； and is. injecting a substance into each of the plurality of eggs through the lumen of said injection needle. The information detected can be used for a variety of purposes, including adjusting the injection needle penetration depth, to more accurately control injection location, and to identify egg gender for subsequent egg selection, to distinguish viable eggs. not viable, and so on. When used to control the depth of penetration, the process positions the needle tip for any purpose, including the removal of biological material as well as the injection of substances.
