The invention relates to a switching device with a blocking device for reliably displaying a switch position. The blocking device is provided with an actuating mechanism having an actuating element (1) and in operative connection with a switching mechanism via a first transmission mechanism, which the switching mechanism operates a shift lever (13) via a second transmission mechanism, and with a contact system (14) comprising a fixed positioned contact element with contacts, which opposite to a movable contact element (15) provided with contacts, which is guided in a contact slider (16), wherein the shift lever (13) is in operative connection with the movable contact element(15). The invention is characterized in that the first transmission mechanism has a drive shaft (3) which is coupled to both the switching mechanism and a separate locking device through which a switching position for the contact system (14) is transferable with welded contacts.
