PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for treatment of telomerase negative cancers, in particular, for inhibition of cancer cell growth using a combination of an inhibitor of reverse transcriptase (RT) and prophylaxis and treatment of cancer.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a nucleoside compound that interacts with a specific structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA), interferes activities of telomerase and reverse transcriptase, and is useful as an antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-cancer agent. Also disclosed is a method for treating or preventing cancer in a patient, comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of an inhibitor or antagonist of reverse transcriptase (RT) expressed in cells of the patient.
