The granular spreader has a supply container (4) and a metering device (6) connected thereto by a pipeline (5). The metering device has a tip-up metering vessel (7) whose tilting axis (8) is inclined and runs across the centre axis (9) of the metering vessel. At the opening (10) of the metering vessel there is a filling and emptying pipe (11) or area which is divided longitudinally parallel to the flow direction of the granulate into the vessel through a partition (12) into two cahnnels, one of which is the filling channel (13) and the other the emptying channel (14). The partition between the two channels and the pipe or the area so divided are long enough so that in the emptying position of the metering vessel, granules flowing out from the supply container are stopped or built up at the partition rising in front of the entrance into the downwardly aligned metering vessel. ADVANTAGE - Accurate metering without mechanical means which would adversely affect the material.
