The invention relates to a method for dividing a stipe (13) of a seaweed into different portions, wherein the method comprises the step of separating a radially inner portion (25) of the stipe (13) from a radially intermediate portion (17). The invention further relates to an apparatus for dividing a stipe (13) of a seaweed into different portions, the apparatus comprising: a peeling means (3) for separating a radially outer portion (15) of the stipe (13) from a radially intermediate portion (17)； a cutting means (19) for separating a radially inner portion (25) of the stipe (13) from a radially inter- mediate portion (17)； and a guiding means (35) for guiding the stipe (13) appropriately onto the peeling means (3) and cutting means (19).
