PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underpants type absorbent article which can suppress leakage from a leg surrounding part.SOLUTION: An underpants type absorbent article comprises: an absorbent body (10) having an absorber (12) and arranged in a vertical direction； and a pair of waist parts (20, 30) provided on one end side and the other end side of the absorbent body (10), and having an elastic member (22, 32) which stretches and shrinks in a lateral direction. The absorbent body (10) has a pair of extension parts (60) extending in both outside parts of the lateral direction of the absorber (12), and having an elastic member (61) which stretches and shrinks in a vertical direction. The extension part (60) has an overlap part (60b) which forms a leg surrounding opening part and overlapping at least one of the pair of waist parts (20, 30) in the vertical direction. At least a part of the overlap part (60b) is jointed to the waist part.
