PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating active lupus nephritis.SOLUTION: The method comprises periodically orally administering a prescribed amount of laquinimod or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, specifically, 0.5-1.0 mg/day of laquinimod. The method elicits at least a partial response by a subject by week 24, where the protein-to-creatinine ratio is reduced by at least 50% compared to a baseline or reduced to 0.3 or less.
