The agricultural machine conditions crop ears or stalks. It has a transport drum, with driving members spaced over its surface at intervals, which forms a transport passage in conjunction with a guide wall. Restrictor members, in a line parallel to the drum axis, can be swung into the passage between the paths followed by the driving members to give a conditioning effect on the material handled and have impact surfaces at an acute angle to its travel direction. The restrictors comprise a row of pressure rollers or rotary toothed discs(38) at intervals.
