PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find out and provide a target protein, or the like, important to essential improvement and development of a therapy for cholesterol metabolism disorder, no matter whether the protein, or the like, is not important to the therapy in a symptomatic treating manner, to utilize the target protein, and to utilize a gene of the protein. SOLUTION: The subject liver-X receptorαsplicing variant protein which comprises a new isoform of a liver-X receptorαparticipating in inhibition of normal cholesterol metabolism due to a normal liver-X receptorαand is structured so that at least a part of a region of an amino acid sequence encoded by an exon 5 of a liver-X receptorαgene is deleted is found out as the target protein. The protein, the gene of the same, and utilization of the same are each useful for preventing and treating the disease and abnormality associated with the inhibition of the normal cholesterol metabolism due to the normal liver-X receptorα, for developing a medicament for the disease and abnormality, or the like.
