In the present invention there is disclosed a process for grinding materials of different grain size and/or different range of grinding property within the range of 30 to 90 Hg (Hardgrowe) in several successive grinding steps and by making use of medium-pressure roll presses. According to the present invention, the ground material is successively formed, pre-ground, height calibrated and finally ground, whereby pressure of the grinding rolls is increasing in the successive steps and on the contrary, size of rest gaps is gradually decreasing. Another embodiment is a suitable selection of properties of materials entering various grinding phases expressed by both grindability and grain size range thereof.
