An electrochemical sensor is disposed on a sensor substrate suitable for flip chip mounting on another substrate. This electrochemical sensor can be manufactured in large quantities by forming a plurality of electrode set patterns on a single substrate. The substrate has vias that electrically couple each electrode to a conductive pad on the opposite side of the substrate. This substrate with electrodes thereon can then be diced and individual electrochemical sensors can be flip-chip mounted on a body-worn device that can be used to analyze analytes. The concentration can be obtained. As a result, the fabrication of the electrochemical sensor electrode can be separated from the fabrication of the remaining electronic components of the device. This can facilitate efficient fabrication of the sensor and allows other electronic components to be fabricated without the limitations associated with electrode fabrication.
