PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antiviral agent having activity to animal viruses.SOLUTION: An antiviral agent having antiviral activity to animal viruses has Coccomyxa polysaccharide, as an active ingredient, extracted by: a process of performing a defatting operation, in which centrifugal separation is performed while one or a plurality of ultrasonic shaking, high-pressure homogenizing and blade agitation are combined after mixing Coccomyxa of microalgae, benzene:methanol (2:1) or volatile solvent made of ethanol, acetone and hexane, for a plurality of times a process of adding a required amount of water after the defatting process, and heating for a required time to perform hot water extraction and a process of concentrating and drying a liquid layer in which solid-liquid separation is performed to hot water extract by centrifugal separation.
